Standings

While it is hard for me to keep baseball statistics each day, I do enjoy watching the trends over a longer term basis. Herewith are some standings month-by-month. I’ll also add some notes on interesting factoids that I observe each month.

Check the notes also for the Pujols watch as he chases the Triple Crown in 2006. Current up-to-date league leaders can be found on the Cardinals’ website.

Notes:

May 1:

  • Boston is barely edged out by New York in the AL East because of games played.
  • Houston is only half a game back of both St. Louis and Cincinnati.
  • The only team that has not one at least one one-run ball game is the Yankees, who are 0-4.
  • At the pace the Kansas City Royals (5-17) are on, they will win only 37 games this year.
  • Most surprising teams: Colorado in the NL West (15-10) and Detroit in the AL Central (16-9, ahead of the whole AL East). Also perhaps, on the disappointment side I would have to add the Twins who are 9-15 and already 8 games back of the White Sox.

Pujols watch for May: 1st in homers, 1st in RBIs, 7th in batting. Interestingly, Lance Berkman is 2nd, 2nd, and 5th, while Moises Alou is 8th, 3rd, and 3rd.
